Bio & Counseling Experience
Katie’s early life was quite the adventure, as she and her family lived in 6 different states and even a different country by the time she was 11. After spending her adolescence in Memphis, TN, Katie headed to Birmingham, AL where she received her BA in Psychology with a minor in Spanish from Samford University. Post-graduation, she worked in the field of neuropsychology for a year before deciding to pursue a career in social work, which took her to Colorado. In 2010, she graduated from the University of Denver with a Masters of Social Work, focusing on high-risk youth.
Subsequently, she began her 8 year career as a mental health provider with the Cherry Creek School District. During this time, she also worked for 3 years as an independent contractor outside of the schools to support children and adolescents in developing stronger interpersonal and living skills by means of small group instruction as well as community outings. Additionally, Katie spent over 3 years working with Jefferson County for a Family Divorce class where she supported children and parents through the divorce process. Katie is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and in 2016, she opened her own private practice so that she could focus her efforts on supporting children, adolescents, and young adults with social, emotional, and behavioral needs as well as their families. In 2019, Katie and her family made the move back to the Southeast, putting down roots in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Around the same time, she began her training in Emotionally Focused Therapy – a turning point that deepened her work with couples and continues to shape her clinical approach today.
